I like to consider myself a handyman and I am constantly fixing things around the house. I like to work with metal, wood, ceramic and many other types of materials when building things. However, I often need to use different tools for each job because one tool alone just isn’t enough. Are you a handyman? Are you good at building things and fixing stuff around your house? -ED or -ING (Adjectives)

-ED or -ING (Adjectives)

Do you know when to use ‘excited’ or ‘exciting’? Do you feel confused or confusing?

As an English teacher, I often hear my students making a very common mistake. They never know when to use adjectives that end in -ed and when to use adjectives that end in -ing. The trick is to think about about whether it’s a feeling. If it is, you should be using -ed. If it’s a thing or an experience, you should be using -ing. Try not to get overwhelmed because this stuff isn’t overwhelming.

Beach Vocabulary

Beach Vocabulary

Do you go to the beach? What things do you bring with you?

I love going to the beach. I love swimming in the ocean, playing football on the beach and having a nice cold drink while playing games with my friends in the sun. When I lived in Thailand, I would go to the beach every weekend and when I lived in Mexico City, I would go to the beach whenever I had holidays. It was interesting to see the things that people from different cultures do on the beach. Most mexicans loved to play in the sun but most Thai people love to talk with each other in the shade. What do people in your country like to do at the beach?

Steak

Cooking Steak

Do you eat steak? How do you like it cooked?

I was born in Alberta, Canada, a place famous for beef and BBQ. Like in Texas and Argentina, almost everybody eats steak there but each person likes their steak cooked a little bit differently. Whether you are a person who likes your beef blue rare or well done, it’s useful to know how to order at a restaurant. This chart can be very useful in doing that.

Turn Phrasal Verbs

TURN – Phrasal Verbs

How is your English turning out? Turn your language skills into something special and learn some new phrasal verbs.

I adore traveling around the world and especially love it when new friends turn up in unexpected places. Sometimes these friendships can turn into something more like romantic relationships. However, you both need to speak the same language. Accents are fine and can even turn people on but not being able to communicate can turn off potential lovers. If you learn your phrasal verbs, international relationships might turn out better than you expected.

Cold Shoulder

Cold Shoulder – an idiom

Does your boyfriend or girlfriend ever give you the cold shoulder? Do you ever give the cold shoulder to anyone?

Relationships can be really hard sometimes and communication sometimes breaks down. We want to tell people how we feel but sometimes we don’t have the words and sometimes we are just too angry or upset. In these situations, it’s common for people to give each other the cold shoulder. I know that, personally, I have given and taken a cold shoulder many times in the past. Talking’s more productive but a cold shoulder still gets the message across.
